Dr Karim Abdel-Khalek

Principal Dentist |

GDC NO. 230748

Karim graduated in 2012. He is passionate about postgraduate education and in 2014 became a member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. In 2015 Karim started his Masters Degree in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics at King’s College London completing this with distinction in 2018.

He has a keen interest in treating complex restorative cases, particularly cases involving tooth wear and the re-establishment of occlusion. In addition to the clinical aspects of prosthodontics, Karim also enjoys the scientific component having completed research projects on the retention methods of implant crowns as well as research into the modern techniques for restoration of endodontically (root canal) treated teeth. This further peaked his interest and he currently undertaking another master degree programme in endodontics from the University of Chester.

Karim also enjoys cosmetic orthodontics having undertaken further training using fixed and removable orthodontic systems including the CFast and Invisalign systems. The use of cosmetic orthodontics systems serves as an adjunct to restorative cases and adheres to Karim’s philosophy of minimally invasive dentistry with many cosmetic cases completed by way of an “ABC” approach (Align, Bleach, Composite Bonding) often with little to no drilling of natural tooth structure.

Karim is currently accepting referrals for:
– Prosthodontics
– Root canal treatment
– Cosmetic Cases
– Short-term Orthodontics

What is your favourite part of the job?

There are two things I enjoy most in dentistry:
1) As I do a fair bit of cosmetic work, changes someones smile and seeing their reaction at the end is an absolutely amazing feeling. Improving someones smile does not just change their appearance but also changes their confidence and overall wellbeing. I can relate to this because I had badly broken down front teeth as a child and the dentist fixing them for me was actually what made me want to become a dentist.

2) The second thing I enjoy most is taking badly broken down teeth and restoring them to make them look like new. Starting in the depths of the teeth by carrying out root canal treatment followed by building up the top of the tooth by way of cosmetic, natural looking restorations. This process involves lots of steps but when done correctly, can take a tooth from almost requiring extraction to looking and functioning like brand new. This is one of my favourite things to do!
You can see lots of examples of these kinds of procedures on my Instagram page. I would quite like to direct patients there somehow.

How long have you been with the practice?

– My two young boys keep me busy!
