Fillings

PORTISHEAD, BRISTOL

A filling restores a hole in a tooth caused as a result of tooth decay, losing a previously fitted filling, or having a cracked/chipped tooth.
Fillings restore the tooth back to its original shape allowing it to function normally.

Types of Fillings?

Amalgam (Silver) fillings have been used for many years. Due to modern advancements in dentistry, many patients are opting to have white, tooth-coloured fillings so that nobody will notice your fillings when you smile and laugh.

Aside from the aesthetic advantages, white fillings are stuck to teeth using a special glue which helps create a strong bond between the tooth and filling and can also help restore strength to a tooth which has been weakened by a hole.

What happens during a filling appointment?

Your dentist will gently deliver an anaesthetic so that you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. We will then remove any decayed or broken tooth structure leaving only healthy remaining tooth structure in place. Once this as been done, the resultant cavity will then be filling and the filling expertly shaped and crafted to restore the tooth to its original dimensions and ensure it fits into your bite correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your filling should be treated just like your natural tooth. You should continue to brush twice daily and use floss or interdental brushes between the teeth. Thorough plaque removal at home will help maintain the longevity of your fillings.
